Second Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution

The second session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (INC-2) will take place from 29 May to 2 June 2023 at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Headquarters in Paris, France. The meeting will be preceded by regional consultations on 28 May 2023, at the same venue.

Together with IndustriALL (plastic production), IUF (plastic use) and WIEGO (informal waste workers), PSI is following this international negotiation as part of the Workers and Trade Unions UN Major Group delegation coordinated by the ITUC representing waste collection, disposal and sanitation and related public service workers engaged in the fight against plastic waste pollution.

Speaking of Treaty options 10-12 on behalf of the Workers and Trade Unions Major Group at INC-2, PSI asked for the inclusion of Just Transition measures as per the ILO definition for ALL workers along the plastic supply chain regardless of employment status.
