PSI Workshop @ ITUC Congress - Winning better protection for Whistle-blowers internationally

Melbourne Exhibition Centre, South Wharf VIC 3006, Australia

Nov 18 - Nov 18

01:30 - 05:30 AEDT

This workshop is an opportunity to hear from Whistle-blowing experts from civil society and discuss opportunities to further a public sector union agenda.

Public service sector workers are often the first to know about threats or harm to public interest, and in that capacity play a key role in exposing wrongdoings and safeguarding the well-being of society and economies.

Yet Whistle-blower protections, at all levels and across countries are often not fit for purpose and discourage workers engaging their union for support to make a disclosure.

Recently Michael Tull (CPSU) represented the Asia-Pacific region at an ILO meeting which recognised whistle blower protection as part of the ILO mission and mandate, and provides scope to push for a binding standard going forward.

This workshop is an opportunity to hear from Whistle-blowing experts from civil society and discuss opportunities to further a public sector union agenda:

Speakers include:

  • Tom Devine, Legal Director of Government Accountability Project (USA)

  • Clancy Moore, CEO, Transparency International Australia

  • Camilo Rubiano, Trade Union Rights Officer, PSI

  • Maddy Northam, ACT Regional Secretary
