Rights for People and Rules for Corporations – Stop ISDS

Today’s trade and investment agreements give transnational corporations far reaching special rights and access to a parallel justice system to enforce them. Corporations have their own global private court system – called Investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) – which they use to bully governments. But many victims of corporate human rights abuses don’t have any way of winning justice. At the start of the 2019 World Economic Forum in Davos, The European Environmental Bureau and more then 150 other European organisations, trade unions and social movements launch a new trade and corporate accountability campaign called “Rights for People and Rules for Corporations – Stop ISDS”. The Petition says: “The EU and Member States must enshrine in their laws the duties of corporations to respect human rights and the environment throughout their operations worldwide”.
