Privatization has become an issue in the presidential election campaign, with Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi (of President Buhari’s APC), and Segun Sowunmi (PDP; a spokesperson of the Atiku Campaign Organisation) squaring off on the question at the first debate. They “clashed over the privatization program of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) when Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was president.” Amaechi “alleged the Atiku-Obasanjo presidency led a privatization of Nigeria’s assets to their cronies. ‘The first question is that they privatized, to who? Who did they privatize to? To themselves, and they are coming back.”
