Week of action for Guatemala
May 22, 2013
In Guatemala, more than 50 trade unionists, most of them public sector workers, have been murdered in the last three years alone. In addition, numerous cases of torture, kidnappings, raids and death threats have created a culture of fear and violence.
Violations of freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining have been constant during this period. Guatemala now has the shameful title of the most dangerous country in the world for trade unionists according to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
Trade unions around the world are uniting to denounce the situation in Guatelama, with demonstrations and actions.
PSI has sent a letter of protest to President Otto Pérez, and requests PSI affiliates to send a similar letter. Please download one of the model letters below, adding your union details.
