This template Press Release is designed for Unions to modify and publish, in an effort to pressure the WTO to stop long-term trade negotiations during the Covid-19 Pandemic in favour of prioritising new, innovative trade rules which save lives by increasing efforts to life saving medicines and health supplies.
This letter sent by PSI and over 300 other Civil Society Organisations and trade experts calls on WTO Members to ensure that all countries have the flexibilities to set aside trade rules that constrain their ability to resolve the pandemic crisis, without fear of repercussions, and to cease other negotiations and activities that divert their energy and resources from that goal.
Despite the pandemic and economic crisis described in this note, some trade negotiations are still continuing.
This ILO policy brief addresses issues relating to public sector workers who perform frontline duties in confronting the COVID-19 crisis in the name of the State, often described as essential services. The brief discusses their role in dealing with the crisis, the measures that governments have taken to support their work and the ILO principles and tools, including international labour standards, that protect them. The brief further explains how organisations like PSI - which has launched a global campaign on its PeopleOverProfit platform, called “Safe Workers Save Lives” - are demanding that governments across the world take urgent COVID-related measures to protect workers.
