National Nurses United (NNU) Executive Director Bonnie Castillo joined with the U.K. Labour Party “call for a new era of change and warn against the dangers of privatization of public social services. Nurses are building strong allies in the U.K. and across the globe in our fight for guaranteed healthcare!” Castillo, “the executive director of the NNU, one of the country’s biggest and most politically outspoken unions, said making international connections was hugely important to the movement, especially making the case against privatised healthcare.”

Gaps found in scrutiny of assisted living homes

States reported spending more than $10 billion a year in federal and state funds on the assisted care industry, “even as it operates under a patchwork of vague standards and limited regulatory supervision by federal and state authorities.” Federal investigators have found “huge gaps in the regulation of assisted living facilities, a shortfall that they say has potentially jeopardized the care of hundreds of thousands of people served by the booming industry,” reports the New York Times.
