Union leaders warn about the privatization of Aerolineas Argentinas

Union leaders warn that President Macri may be moving towards the privatization of Aerolineas Argentinas, the national carrier. The Secretary General of the Asociación de Pilotos de Líneas Aéreas (APLA), Pablo Biró, says that “if Airlineas ends up privatized and they give it to a multinational, it's going to end badly.” Also, “the government has authorized the extension of jurisdiction in the trials that the State has against it within the framework of Public-Private Participation (PPP) projects.” Such arbitration panels would be a transfer to foreign jurisdiction. “This is very serious in terms of the transfer of sovereignty, analysts warn.”

The companies whose officials are named in a corruption probe to continue work

The government will allow companies whose officials are named in a corruption probe to continue work on existing projects and to bid for new ones. “Faced with the threat of a recession in the second half of the year, the government plans to push forward with President Mauricio Macri’s $35 billion infrastructure agenda, including public private partnership projects. Dietrich delivered the message to nine banks, including HSBC and ICBC, in a meeting earlier Friday. The corruption scandal that has enveloped the country won’t halt that process, he said.”
